Tip of the Day 6/30/10

Use dryer sheets to clean floors.

Just attach them to your Swiffer as you would a normal replacement pad. It attracts the dirt and is a lot less expensive!

Tip of the Day 6/29/10

BBQ sauce isn’t just for grilling!

BBQ sauce is one of those stockpile items that I have way too much of. During the summer, there always seems to be a BBQ sauce coupon available along with a sale resulting in FREE sauce. We grill a lot in the summer, but not enough to use up my overflowing stockpile. Here are some of the ways I use that extra BBQ sauce.

  • In the slow cooker –Just put some chicken in your slow cooker, cover with a bottle of BBQ sauce, and cook on low for 8 hours. This makes an easy meal.
  • BBQ Chicken Pizza – Use the leftovers from your slow cooker meal to make a tasty pizza. Use BBQ sauce instead of pizza sauce.
  • Meatloaf – BBQ sauce gives meatloaf a great flavor. This is a simple recipe with ingredients that are probably in your pantry.
  • Dip – Use BBQ sauce instead of ketchup for dipping fries or add it to your hot dog. Wherever you would normally use ketchup, try BBQ sauce instead.
  • BBQ Baked Beans – This is a simple recipe from Whole Foods. They recommend using pinto beans, but I will substitute almost any kind of beans I have on hand. (Beans are another item that I tend to overstock my pantry with).
Do you have any favorite recipes that use BBQ sauce?

Thanks, Froogaloo!

Are you a coupon user or a couponer?

A COUPON USER is a shopper who collects a few coupons, usually they save only the coupons they know they will use, they head to the store and use the coupons on the items they need that week paying no attention to sales, deals, or Catalina’s.

A COUPONER is a shopper who actively collects and organizes coupons, and pays attention to and shops when there is a sale or special offer. Extreme couponers buy multiple coupons inserts/coupons, stockpile, and quite often will complete multiple transactions.

I’m a hardcore couponer! How about you?

Tip of the Day 6/10/10

Did you know that rental cars are nearly twice as expensive at the airport than other locations?

We are trying to plan a little vacation, and I was shocked to find this out. I knew airport rentals were more expensive, but had no idea it was that bad. Since we’re travelling with a toddler, I’m willing to pay the “convenience” fee, but I still think it’s ridiculous. I know some rental car companies, such as Enterprise, will pick you up. The catch is that they won’t pick you up from the airport, you must be within a certain radius, and you have to take the driver back to the office. Luckily, my husband can get a corporate rate through work, and I have rewards that I can redeem for rental car vouchers. So much for a “cheap” vacation!

Do you have any tips for saving money on travel?

Tip of the Day 6/7/10

Use vinegar to kill weeds.

Put vinegar in a spray bottle and spray weeds liberally. It’s best to do this on a sunny day, so the sun will cause the vinegar to burn & kill the weeds. It might take a few applications, but the weeds will die after a few days.

My flower garden always needed to be weeded, but I didn’t want to use weed killer because of my toddler. This is a great harmless alternative, and vinegar is cheap!

Tip of the Day 6/3/10

I love shopping at The Children’s Place. I always find great clothes for my son at great prices.

Here are some tips from Baby Cheapskate for shopping TCP.

Welcome to the latest installment in BC’s Shopping Secrets series. Here’s
what you need to know to maximize your savings at The Children’s Place:

  • The Children’s Place offers well-priced clothing and shoes for newborns and
kids through size 14. 15%-off coupon codes are frequently issued. Try not to
shop without one. The current code is C4A4A, and it’s good through 5/12.
  • Sign up for the TCP Birthday Club and you’ll receive one-time use coupons for
15% or 20% off on your birthday and on your child’s.
  • When you’re shopping in store, ask for a free shipping coupon that you can
    use online.
  • Prices can be a bit lower in store than they are online.

The Children’s Place has four major clearance sales per year. Reductions
start at 25% off (priced as marked) and generally increase to 30% off and then
50% off. Expect website traffic to be heavy (i.e. the site is slow) on the first
day of major reductions. Here are the approximate dates of each, based on past
sales:

  • The Fall Sale starts in early September and lasts through through late
December. Goes to extra 50% off in mid October.
  • The Winter Monster Sale (fall and winter clearance) starts around Christmas
and lasts through the end of February. Goes to extra 50% off in late
    January.
  • The Spring Sale starts in early March and lasts through late May. Goes to
50% off in early to mid April.
  • The Summer Monster Sale (spring and summer clearance) starts in early June
and lasts through the end of August. Goes to 50% off in late July.

    Thanks, Baby Cheapskate!
