Why I Coupon

Sometimes I get nervous at the checkout counter. Will my printable coupons scan? Will the cashier be rude? What if my catalina doesn’t print?

Then I tell myself – “You are doing nothing wrong by using coupons! The manufacturers print them for a reason.”

I think most new couponers have some kind of fear of the checkout lane. Most people think that coupons are for poor people, but I’ve discovered that is not the case. Coupons are for everyone! In fact, most coupon users are middle class. This is probably because they have easier access to the internet and newspapers.

For me, the hardest part of couponing was getting over my fear that a deal might not work the way I thought it would. As long as you aren’t doing anything illegal and you remain confident and calm, most situations will work out in your favor. If not, you can always leave the items at the store or ask to speak to a manager.

So, why do I coupon? It’s not because I have to, but because I want to be able to save money on everyday items so my family can afford to splurge on other things. Things like taking family vacations, going out to dinner, saving money for college, splurging on a new purse I really don’t need (but only if I have a coupon!), etc, etc. The extra money I’m saving on groceries is helping our family reach these goals comfortably, without much sacrifice. A few extra minutes in the checkout lane is worth it for that kind of return. And it’s pretty addicting, too!

Each individual or family has different goals. Why do you coupon?

Building your accessory collection

source

Here’s another great post from Sal at Already Pretty about building your accessory collection.

I definitely need to take inventory of my necklace and earring collection.  I have a tendency to hit the clearance section at Kohl’s quite often and am always bringing home something cute and cheap.  I’ve also been known to impulse buy a few things here and there on Etsy.  I probably have stuff hiding in drawers that I completely forgot about.  And my belt and scarf collection is kind of large thanks to rummage sales.  I love a good bargain.

If you’re not already a regular reader of Already Pretty, you should start now.  I’m off to get organized!

What’s in the freezer?

Kitchen Stewardship shares 10 easy prep foods that are always in her freezer.

I love to freeze shredded carrots, cooked ground beef, & shredded chicken.  It makes dinner time go so much faster.  I love her idea #4 of freezing chicken broth.  I always hate it when I don’t need a full can for a recipe, but never thought of freezing it.

Smelly Shoe Solution

Audrey from Mom Generations has a tip for stinky shoes.

Put a dryer sheet in the shoe overnight.

I have also been known to put smelly shoes in the freezer, which is great during the summer but not so great during the winter.  I’ll try the dryer sheet idea next time.

Shade Clothing is back…with 20% off and FREE Shipping!

Shade Clothing closed briefly last year, but now they are back! And I couldn’t be more excited!

I’m in love with their cap sleeve tees. I own three and ordered my fourth yesterday. In fact, I’m wearing one right now. They are great for layering, super stretchy, and longer than your average tee. I find that their sizes run a bit small. I’m typically a size medium, but wear a large in Shade. Just so you know.

Update: I just received my Shade order, and it seems they have adjusted their sizing! I now think I’m a medium. The cap sleeve tee has enough stretch that it still looks good in a large, but the maternity top is HUGE. Glad they have free returns!

I also picked up this cute maternity top.

Now I’m just patiently waiting for the package to arrive.
Haven’t tried Shade yet? Now is a great time! They are offering 20% off with code THANKYOU until March 20. You will also get free shipping and free returns until March 31. So order a top or two and give them a try.

*Shade did not pay me for this post. I just really, really love their tees!
