Why I Coupon

Sometimes I get nervous at the checkout counter. Will my printable coupons scan? Will the cashier be rude? What if my catalina doesn’t print?

Then I tell myself – “You are doing nothing wrong by using coupons! The manufacturers print them for a reason.”

I think most new couponers have some kind of fear of the checkout lane. Most people think that coupons are for poor people, but I’ve discovered that is not the case. Coupons are for everyone! In fact, most coupon users are middle class. This is probably because they have easier access to the internet and newspapers.

For me, the hardest part of couponing was getting over my fear that a deal might not work the way I thought it would. As long as you aren’t doing anything illegal and you remain confident and calm, most situations will work out in your favor. If not, you can always leave the items at the store or ask to speak to a manager.

So, why do I coupon? It’s not because I have to, but because I want to be able to save money on everyday items so my family can afford to splurge on other things. Things like taking family vacations, going out to dinner, saving money for college, splurging on a new purse I really don’t need (but only if I have a coupon!), etc, etc. The extra money I’m saving on groceries is helping our family reach these goals comfortably, without much sacrifice. A few extra minutes in the checkout lane is worth it for that kind of return. And it’s pretty addicting, too!

Each individual or family has different goals. Why do you coupon?

  1. Um, I admit that I don't coupon. I did for a while but never ended up using the ones I clipped so I stopped. I mainly buy veggies, beans, pasta. Not very exciting!

I've just started using Target's online printable coupons, they're great! Saves me so much money. Following back from Mommy's Peanut Gallery 🙂

I coupon because I can. I hated going to the grocery store before I couponed. I spent way too much money and what I bought didn't last the week.

I've become a better planner, eat healthier meals and spend way less money than I thought was possible.
